About SP500Eyes8000
The S&P 500 rose ~0.62% on Aug 7 and ~3.57% for the week, hitting a record close. Strong earnings and weaker payrolls, which cut hike bets, supported risk appetite. Bloomberg data show options traders adding bets on further gains. Fundstrat's Tom Lee previously raised his year-end target to 8,000, saying earnings upgrades and easing policy pressure could lift stocks. Can earnings sustain the rally, or will the index return to high-level consolidation once rate-cut hopes and options flows fade?

WALL STREET HEADS FOR BEST WEEK IN MONTHS
US stocks are on track for their strongest week in months, fueled by a rebound in AI stocks, strong earnings and hopes for a Strait of Hormuz deal.
The S&P 500 is up 2.9% this week, while the Dow has gained 2.7%.
The Nasdaq is outperforming with a 3.8% rise.
Previously beaten-down tech names also surged, with Coherent jumping 27% and Lumentum gaining 17%.

That's Tom Lee on CNBC. His case: the sell-off a few weeks ago wasn't about fundamentals breaking, it was leverage getting unwound and sentiment getting too bearish. Now earnings are crushing expectations, 2027 estimates keep climbing, and AI capex is showing up in results across sectors, not just tech.

Fundstrat's Fundstrat head of research Tom Lee points to 2027 earnings upgrades as validation for higher stock market levels
"Earnings this quarter is coming in more than $15 ahead of what people expected at the start of the quarter. But what's really more impressive is 2027 earnings are up now $8. We're probably close to 410 for 2027 earnings."
Per CNBC.

The call option volume on the S&P 500 just hit a record high—over 4 million contracts in a single day on Tuesday, while put options remained at average levels. This figure is more telling than the index level: it indicates that capital is not hedging against a pullback but is afraid of missing out. The option skew has shifted significantly to the right, and implied volatility is being propped up by bullish sentiment refusing to drop.
In contrast, with $BTC stuck at 64K, risk-on money is clearly crowding into US stocks' AI sector, not flowing into crypto. The first derivative signal that sentiment has peaked will be when this skew starts to ease and put demand returns. Data won’t play along with you; watch the positions speak.
